The Latvian championship unit FC “Petrow / Jelgava” will make its debut in the UEFA Champions League indoor football tournament with a pre-race game against the leading Slovak team FC “Lučenec”, informs the Latvian Football Federation (LFF).
The lottery that took place on Tuesday has decided that this match must take place in the field of Latvian representatives. FC “Petrow / Jelgava”, which was entered for this tournament under the name FC “Petro-w”, became the strongest in Latvia for the first time last season and thus this season has had the opportunity to debut in the Champions League.
Also in these competitions, changes in the playoff format have been introduced in the new season – in the pre-race round, 46 teams were divided into 23 pairs, where the winner will be determined in one match. The games are scheduled for November 24-29.
The winners of these pairs will join the top nine clubs in the 1/16 final. All UEFA level indoor football matches are currently taking place behind closed doors. As you know, the indoor football league league competition in Latvia is currently suspended.
