FC Nantes Set to Sign Jean-Kevin Duverne: A Long-Awaited Transfer

According to The Team, FC Nantes should soon formalize the arrival of Jean-Kevin Duverne. The left side of Stade Brestois should commit to four seasons with the Yellow-and-Green club. If the player joins the banks of the Erdre freely this summer, some supporters surely remember that FC Nantes tried to recruit him in 2019, when he was 22 years old and played at RC Lens.

A transfer aborted at the last moment.

Indeed, in the summer of 2019, at the very end of the summer transfer window, Nantes and Lensois finally seemed to have reached an agreement after several days of negotiations for the transfer of Jean-Kévin Duverne. A transaction of around two million euros was then mentioned to seal the arrival of the young central defender (replaced on the left side in Brest).

But in the last moments, Stade Brestois had taken advantage of yet another blockage in the negotiations between FC Nantes and RC Lens. The Finistère club, which had also put two million euros on the table, finally emerged victorious from this fight with FC Nantes. Jean-Kévin Duverne had therefore joined Brest, with whom he played 121 games in four seasons.

A memorable transfer window.

As a reminder, during this same summer, FC Nantes had notably recorded the arrival of its future captain, Alban Lafont, from Toulouse. Ten other recruits had also come to strengthen the club. Among them, Ludovic Blas, who became a key player for the club during his four seasons in Yellow-and-Green. Moses Simon, Marcus Coco, Denis Petrić, Dennis Appiah, Bridge Ndilu, Molla Wagué, Mehdi Abeid, Christian Benavente or even Abou Ba also put down their suitcases on the banks of the Erdre.

The management of FC Nantes had also found a successor to Vahid Halilhodžić, in the person of Christian Gourcuff.

On the other side of the scale, the Canaries had lost staff executives. Diego Carlos had left for Sevilla, while Valentin Rongier had joined Olympique de Marseille as a “joker”, a few days after the failure of his transfer at the end of the transfer window. Lucas Lima had joined Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
