A few months after his arrival in Lorient (in July 2023), Benjamin Mendy will take legal action against Manchester City, his former club, in order to obtain the payment of “several million pounds” according to Sky Sports, which revealed the information this Monday, November 20. The English club had suspended the payment of his salary (£100,000 per week or approximately €114,000) from September 2021 after the Frenchman was placed in police custody on August 26, 2021 for four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The winner of the 2018 World Cup was found not guilty by British justice on July 14, 2023 during a second trial after being found not guilty of six rapes against four women and a sexual assault on a fifth woman on January 13, 2023 .
Arriving at Manchester City in 2017 from Monaco, Mendy was under contract until June 2023 when the payment of his salaries was suspended.
In a press release, it is indicated that his lawyer for this case will be Nick De Marco, mandated by the Madrid firm Laffer Abogados and that “the request will be submitted to an employment tribunal”.
