There will be a coach dismissal in the 2nd Bundesliga before the last matchday of 2023.
This comes as a surprise: As the Bild newspaper reports, FC Hansa Rostock will sack head coach Alois Schwartz before the last game of the year at SC Paderborn (Friday, December 15th, 6:30 p.m.).
According to Bild information, Schwartz will no longer lead the Wednesday training session (2 p.m.), and in Paderborn, youth leader Uwe Speidel will sit on the bench.
Hansa Rostock – balance of the current season: five wins, two draws, nine defeats – lost 2-0 to FC Schalke 04 last weekend and is in 16th place with 17 points after 16 match days. As of today, the Hansa-Kogge would play against the third-placed team in the 3rd league in two relegation games to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. But eleventh place, which SV Wehen Wiesbaden currently occupies, only has four points. And yet, according to Bild, the bosses have lost patience.
The 56-year-old Schwartz only started working on the Baltic Sea on March 22, 2023 and signed a contract until June 30, 2025. In 27 games as Hansa coach, the former MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen professional won eleven, drew three times and suffered 13 defeats.
If Hansa Rostock makes the dismissal official during the day, it would be the fifth coaching leave of absence in the current 2023/2024 second division season.
Previously, FC Schalke 04 parted ways with Thomas Reis (Karel Geraerts took over), Eintracht Braunschweig parted ways with Jens Härtel (Daniel Scherning took over), VfL Osnabrück parted ways with Tobias Schweinsteiger (Uwe Koschinat came in) and 1. FC Kaiserslautern parted ways with Dirk Schuster. He was inherited by former Schalke coach Dimitrios Grammozis.
Rostock goes to Paderborn on Friday, then the winter break. In the new year, Hansa will start at 1. FC Nürnberg (January 20th) and with a home game against SV Elversberg (January 27th). And then probably with a new head coach.
