Sport Non-compliant player helmets: FC Grenoble sanctioned, a first in France

“Following non-compliant wearing of additional equipment noted by the Federal Representative, FC Grenoble Rugby is summoned before the Disciplinary and Regulations Commission at its meeting of October 11, 2023.” The eyes of Grenoble leaders have not made a turn when they saw the reason for which they had been summoned before the disciplinary committee on October 11. During the Aurillac – Grenoble match, the federal delegate pointed out in his report that the color of the Grenoblois helmets was not standardized with the FCG team jersey. The regulations require Top 14 and Pro D2 teams to wear equipment similar to the jersey colors. However, this was not the case during this Aurillac – Grenoble, as is not the case every weekend on the lawns of the championship.
Grenoble officially warned
The summons of the Grenoble club caused concern in Isère and the FCG captain gave a “rant” at a press conference after the FCG – Agen match. “Honestly, it’s a rule that I find stupid. I don’t see why we bother the players about personal equipment, supposedly because it can disturb the referee in these decisions in the rucks or otherwise. […] And what I find strange is that the club is summoned and he is the only one; whereas every weekend, we play against guys who don’t have helmets of the same color. » Strong words from Grenoblois, who do not agree at all with the League’s decision to convene the FCG.
This Wednesday, the LNR announced its decision in a press release, released this Wednesday evening. “FC Grenoble Rugby was found responsible for non-compliance with the provisions of article 377 bis of the General Regulations of the LNR. FC Grenoble Rugby is sanctioned with a warning. » This is a first in the history of French rugby. And looking at the multiple colors of helmets that we can see on the fields, it won’t be the last.
