FC Grenoble Rugby: Confirmed for Pro D2 Despite Point Deduction

The FCG will play well in Pro D2 next season, announced the French Rugby Federation (FFR) this Thursday, July 6. But the Grenoble club will start the season with a withdrawal of 6 points in the championship standings.

The Grenoble residents will be able to breathe. Downgraded to National for administrative reasons just a few days after almost reaching the Top 14, the FCG will play well in Pro D2 next season, announced the French Rugby Federation (FFR) at the end of the federal appeal commission which s met this Thursday, July 6.

“FC Grenoble Rugby has just learned with pleasure and relief that our club was maintained in Pro D2 for next season”announces the club in a press release on social networks.

Nevertheless, the club will be penalized with a withdrawal of 6 points from the start of the next exercise for in particular a “inconsistency and/or implausibility of the initial and/or updated budget”according to the FFR appeal committee.

“More than ever we must all come together, shareholders, partners, subscribers and supporters so that the FCG does not relive this situation again”reacted the club in the same press release.

The Isère club pleaded its case today before the rugby regulatory authority of the FFR. The objective was thus to reassure on the financial health of the club: “Our club is experiencing financial difficulties (…) New shareholders recently entered the capital of the SPP holding company, which holds the majority of the club with the desire to give it a new economic dynamic”underlined the club at the beginning of June.

It is now done: the FCG has regained a financial solidity which allows it to remain in the second division. The club will therefore return to professional level against Mont-de-Marsan on August 18.
