The eighth defeat in a row was one too many for FC Gossau coach Patrick Winkler – Roland Näf took over

FC Gossau continues to stagger towards the relegation zone in the 1st division. The club has now taken the consequences and changed the coach. Roland Näf should protect the Fürstenland footballers from relegation in the last new championship games.

After the winter break, FC Gossau failed to win a game under coach Patrick Winkler. It dropped four losses.

FC Gossau’s last win was on October 23 of last year. The Fürstenländer defeated the Ticino U21 team 5:3 and took sixth place in the 1st division table with 16 points.

But a lot has happened since then – or not, as far as Gossauer’s point account is concerned. Only one more point has been added since then. FC Gossau is nine games without a win. Including the cup defeat against La Chaux-de-Fonds last weekend, the team under coach Patrick Winkler has lost eight games in a row. The lead over the first relegation zone is only three points.

Roland Näf should ensure the league

In order to stop the downward slide, the club has decided to end the cooperation with the former FCSG player Winkler after two and a half years. FC Gossau now entrusts Roland Näf with the task of keeping the club in the league. The 65-year-old most recently worked for the FC Winterthur youth team for the U15/16 juniors. He will also return there at the end of the season. So it’s a temporary job.

It is the second time for Näf that he has acted as interim coach at FC Gossau. In the 2010/11 season he took over from Olaf Sager and led the St.Gallen team to stay in the league.
