At Feyenoord, assistant coach Pusic has left for Shakhtar Donetsk. In the short term, he does not seem to be succeeded at De Kuip, but Maaskant does have a potential candidate in mind. “You will be surprised by Santoni’s contacts,” Maaskant begins at FC Rijnmond about the well-performing Dordrecht coach, who has a good relationship with Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi.
“He has contacts all over the world, at the very top. He is extremely eager to learn, which he is always very busy with. He is simply a very good trainer. To be honest, I might have expected him to be Pusic’s successor. would be at Feyenoord, I had seen him do that,” says Maaskant. I think he is someone who is great at developing players.”

Maaskant was then asked whether Santoni would be open to a role in Feyenoord’s technical staff. “No idea,” is his first reaction. Maaskant also responds clearly to the question whether he has submitted this to Santoni. “I don’t talk about those sad things with him. I don’t ask those journalist questions.”
