TRNAVA – The football players of FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda won Sunday’s match of the 20th round of the Nike League at Spartak Trnava 2:1 and took an important step towards advancing to the top six.
On the contrary, Spartak came under pressure, in the final two rounds of the regular season they will have to fight hard to maintain their position in the group for the title. Trnava did not use the chance to catch up with the second Žilina on points, Dunajská Streda loses only one point to the third “angels” after the weekend.
DAC came out in the first half with a lot of attacking, which the Trnava team couldn’t deal with for a long time. Michal Gašparík, coach of Spartak: “I agree with the guest coach that the match was of high quality, two quality teams met, it was felt that both teams wanted to play for victory, it had quality and intensity. The first 15 minutes were not ideal, we acted slower, then we gradually got into the match and we took the initiative, we just conceded a relatively cheap goal at the wrong time, when we were in a deep block and we had a lot of players there, but still they outplayed us through the side. Then it’s very difficult against Dunajská Streda, who defend well play.
We created situations, we had chances in the first half as well, I have to praise the guys for the second one despite the result. They played very well, we were able to push the opponent, there were many situations and centers. We needed a goal earlier, which eventually came, but it was disallowed. That’s what football is cruel about, that we conceded a decisive goal just a few seconds later. I repeat, I have nothing to blame the players for the second half.
We tried to react to the system change when DAC switched to a five-back formation. We also reacted to it, we were already playing practically vabank, the guests had quality in individuality and break situations. A good match for the spectators, a cruel result for us, but it’s also about efficiency, that you need to convert chances to make it easier for you to play. When you’re losing, it’s hard. It happened to us twice in a row, which is not ideal.”
Xisco Muňoz, coach of Dunajská Streda: “It was an amazing game from both sides. We started the game with tactics that we had to change in the second half, we reacted to how the home team changed their game. Whoever saw the game could enjoy it, saw two good teams, both teams they went for the win, they created chances. It was played at a high level of intensity that goes beyond normal games in this league. The home coach may be sad about the result but I have to congratulate him because tactically it was brilliant. I know the result is the most important thing but I enjoyed this match, it was a big challenge.”
