FC Bayern takes first place in the “Digital Champions League”

After winning its tenth consecutive champion title, FC Bayern is now also the digital champion: A study carried out by nexum AG in cooperation with kicker business solutions examined the so-called “Digital Champions League” in March/April 2022: the online presence of the 20 best clubs in Europe and how they use digital transformation for their internationalization strategy. First place went to the Bundesliga number one, the result of which is evident, as President Herbert Hainer and Director of Media and Communication Stefan Mennerich were present in Nuremberg for the announcement: “The German record champion consistently pursues a strategy comprehensive digital”.

President Herbert Hainer: “We are very pleased with this award. Our goal is to reach our fans around the world, and this works excellently through our club platforms. As digitization is becoming more and more important in our everyday life, as well as in the world of football, we will continue to follow this path steadily.

Stefan Mennerich, Director of Media and Communication: “Being number one in this digitization ranking of the best clubs in Europe is something special and a great confirmation for the whole team. And of course our journey continues: personalization, more content for hobbyists or Web 3.0 are just a few keywords that we’ll be addressing in the coming weeks and months.”

First positions in all areas

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way football is consumed and the way clubs communicate with their fans. The digitization of professional sport is booming and, if used well, it opens up new markets for clubs around the world. For this reason, the study evaluated the top 20 European clubs in the FIFA rankings in six categories: FC Bayern secured first place in each of the “Online Shop” and “Professional Networks” categories, and received the medal silver in “Web page” and “Social Media”. FCB is also in the top third for “Marketing Spread” and “E-Sports”.

In the overall result, the Munich team dominated the international competition and won by almost ten points ahead of second-placed FC Barcelona. Third place also went to a representative of the German first division, RB Leipzig.

On July 30, FC Bayern have their first title shot in the new 2022/23 season:
