FC Bayern Munich: Yann Sommer cannot leave Borussia Mönchengladbach in winter

WHAT HAPPENED? Borussia Mönchengladbach have rejected the transfer of goalkeeper Yann Sommer to Bayern Munich during the winter break.

WHAT WAS SAID? “We will not give up Yann Sommer. That’s what we told Bayern,” said Fohlen sporting director Roland Virkus Renana Post.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? Due to injury, Bayern were without starting goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the entire second half of the season and have been looking for a replacement ever since.

Breaking Alexander Nübel’s loan deal at AS Monaco has been difficult so far, Sommer has emerged as the ideal candidate in recent days and the Swiss himself is reportedly looking to move to the Isar.

WHAT’S NEXT? Apparently nothing will come of this in the current transfer window, even if Bayern are loud Bild I still don’t want to give up. Second Sports1 Hasan Salihamidzic and Co. have so far offered just under five million euros, with eight million euros – the sum likely to be owed for Sommer’s possible successor Jonas Omlin from HSC Montpellier – Gladbach would likely be ready to sell.

According to the report, however, Bayern are not yet ready to pay that much money for the free keeper after the end of the season. Because even an early comeback campaign by Alexander Nübel shouldn’t be out of the question just yet. As a result, there would still be contact between FCB and AS Monaco.

However, Nübel, who recently attested “little point” to a comeback, would insist on some requirements. In particular, the allegedly tense relationship with the goalkeeping coach and new friend Toni Tapalovic should ease. Nübel wanted more recognition.

Like Gladbach, Monaco would need to find a suitable replacement before their number one can join Monaco.
