There has been speculation about this transfer for months. Now it’s official: FC Bayern Munich has signed a star from RB Leipzig.
Konrad Laimer has the FC Bayern Munich signed a contract until June 30, 2027. The 26-year-old central midfielder moves to Munich from DFB Cup winners Leipzig on a free transfer. The German champions officially announced this on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern: “We are delighted to have signed Konrad Laimer. He is coming to us as a new, old DFB Cup winner – and together we will hopefully win many more great victories and titles here at FC Bayern celebrate.”
Laimer was trained in the FC Red Bull Salzburg youth academy and made his professional debut in September 2014. The midfielder celebrated three championships and three cup wins with Salzburg before moving to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017.
Laimer played 190 competitive games (15 goals) for the Saxons and won the DFB Cup twice there (2022 and 2023). In September 2019, Laimer made his debut for the Austrian national team and has so far made 26 appearances for his home country (two goals).
“It’s a dream come true for me. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’ll give everything for the club and the fans. FC Bayern always have the highest goals – just like me: I’m in the right place. Me there is only 100 percent, and I will bring that into every training session from day one. I can hardly wait,” says Laimer.
FC Bayern Munich: Some loan players could come back
Laimer is Bayern’s first official signing for the 2023/2024 season. Marcel Sabitzer (Manchester United), Alexander Nübel (AS Monaco), Malik Tillman (Glasgow Rangers), Gabriel Vidovic (Vitesse Arnhem) and Bright Arrey-Mbi (Hannover 96) will initially return on July 1, 2023. They were all on loan. It is questionable which of these players will end up in the FC Bayern Munich squad in the 2023/2024 season.
