In front of a record crowd, the women of FC Bayern welcomed Eintracht Frankfurt to the top game. The fans also set a record against 1. FC Köln in Bremen’s Weserstadion. In terms of sport, however, only Werder had something to celebrate.

The women’s Bundesliga benefited from the men’s international break. However, the FC Bayern Munich footballers only achieved a disappointing result at their Bundesliga premiere in the Allianz Arena in front of a record crowd. Coach Alexander Straus’ team had to be content with a 0-0 draw in front of 19,000 spectators in the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, the highest number of visitors in a league game for the Munich team did not inspire the home team. The German champions found it difficult to create clear scoring opportunities against smart defending from Frankfurt.

In addition to the high number of spectators, there were other special features: On the occasion of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in October, a pink ribbon was integrated into the logo of the Munich women’s jersey sponsor as an international symbol in the fight against breast cancer. The Allianz Arena should also light up in pink after the final whistle. The aim of the actions was to send a “clear signal for breast cancer prevention,” FC Bayern explained before the game.

21,500 spectators celebrate Werder Bremen

The Werder Bremen footballers also set a club attendance record and surpassed the Munich mark. There were 21,508 spectators in the Weser Stadium on Saturday for the 3-0 (1-0) win over 1. FC Cologne. It was the second appearance in the big arena for coach Thomas Horsch’s team. Last November, Bremen lost 2-1 against SC Freiburg in front of 20,417 fans.

Werder initially benefited from an own goal from Cologne’s Celina Degen in their second win of the season. In the 32nd minute, the Austrian misdirected the ball into her own goal. Lina Hausicke (83rd) made it 2-0 with a powerful shot from close range. 17-year-old Melina Kunkel then made the final score in added time (90+3). In the table, Bremen have now moved past Cologne’s equal points with six points and are currently in fourth place.
