FC Bayern Legend Thomas Müller Extends Contract for Another Year

“In the summer and fall I felt that I could still rely on my body. So the decision to play another year was made for me,” wrote Müller in his monthly newsletter.

“I love competition and the will to win is just as strong as ever. “It was all the better for me that I had discussions with FC Bayern before the winter break and we extended my contract for another year,” continued the 2014 world champion.

Müller emphasized that the negotiations on a new working paper were “characterized by mutual appreciation”. For him, it was “additionally liberating that my sporting future has already been clarified and I can put my full focus on football.”

Müller hasn’t lost his ambition anyway, as he made clear in his newsletter: “The Champions League final in Dahoam in 2025 is also a big motivation for me. With the Bayern soul, it’s a dream and a realizable one. We don’t have to play the lottery for it.”

Müller came to Bayern in 2000 when he was almost ten years old from the village club TSV Pähl. His breakthrough with the professionals came in the 2009/2010 season under coach Louis van Gaal, who was soon immortalized with the sentence: “Müller always plays.”

Müller has so far played 685 competitive games for the FC Bayern professionals, contributing 237 goals and 263 assists. Only Sepp Maier (706 games) has more games for Munich.

The 34-year-old made his Bundesliga debut on August 15, 2008 in the Allianz Arena. Since then, Müller has won, among other things, the German championship twelve times and the Champions League twice.
