The most important thing in brief

  • FC Basel has to accept a setback after the 6-1 gala in Winterthur.
  • The Bebbi gave up a 1-0 half-time lead against YB.
  • In the final phase, two own goals paved the way for victory for the Bernese team.

Actually, one could have expected the 2-1 result on the other side, considering the current mood in which the two teams find themselves.

But it was Basel’s Mohamed Dräger who scored a momentous own goal around ten minutes before the end. Six minutes after coming on as a substitute, the Tunisian scored into his own net from a cross from Lewin Blum.

Until then, the animated game was on a knife’s edge. The Basel team took the lead after almost 20 minutes, contrary to the run of the game. David von Ballmoos was only able to adequately clarify a shot by Kevin Carlos.

Anton Kade switched gears faster than Jaouen Hadjam and pushed the ball over the line. Up to this point, the home team had dominated the game and also had the better scoring chances. The eye-catching Lukas Lakomy missed the best opportunity when he hit the crossbar.

FCB: Schmid’s goal comes too late

Just in the phase in which FC Basel seemed to have the game under control, YB found its way back into the game. After 64 minutes and a nice lay-off from Meschack Elia, Filip Ugrinic had no trouble defeating Marwin Hitz. As a result, the game sputtered along for a bit before Dräger turned things around.

Will FCB make it into the top 6?

After Adrian Barisic’s own goal forced by Ebrima Colley three minutes before the end of regular time, the game seemed decided. Dominik Schmid, after preparatory work by Xherdan Shaqiri, brought the tension back again. However, it was no longer enough for FCB to win a point.

For FC Basel it was the first defeat after three wins in a row, for the Young Boys it was the longed-for liberation.
