For FC Basel, qualifying for the final round remains a difficult goal to achieve. At the leader YB, the Basel team went down 1:5 after a desolate start for a quarter of an hour.
YB against Basel was eagerly awaited. After all, the Bernese fired their coach on Monday after three defeats in a row.
Anyone who saw the game against FCB realized: Maybe it was a good thing that YB parted ways with Raphael Wicky. The fresh wind seemed to inspire the Bernese players. In any case, they ran and fought from the first second so that their opponents didn’t know what was happening to them.

Magnin is not completely satisfied
“If you sleep like that, then it’s clear that it won’t work,” said FCB veteran Fabian Frei on “Blue” Klartext. After the early goals, things went a little better in terms of play, “but only because YB took at least 15 percent. That’s why we can’t take any credit for it.”

On the other hand, Darian Males, who moved from Basel to Young Boys last summer, was beaming. «Everything came together. Our energy was great, as was the evaluation of our chances. We showed right from the start where it would work.”
Joël Magnin took over as YB’s interim coach until the end of the season. His debut can be described as more than successful. “The manner was very good,” he praised his team. “There is still a lot to discuss defensively, but I am very happy with the offensive performance,” said Magnin.
His counterpart, Basel coach Fabio Celestini, took the blame for the defeat on his own account on SRF: “Nothing worked and I am responsible for that as a coach.”

Winterthur is now waiting for Basel
Because Servette had won the Léman derby against Lausanne 3-1 shortly before the start of the YB game, the Geneva team temporarily took over the top of the table. With the big win against Basel, first place moved back to Bern, the difference is still one point.
Meanwhile, FC Basel remains in the bottom of the table. The gap to the final round is nine points – a big gap, as there are only six rounds left to play before the league is divided into two groups. Next Saturday there will be a showdown with the in-form FC Winterthur, who climbed to 6th place on Saturday.
The two top teams have to play away on Sunday. Leader YB travels to Lausanne-Sport, Servette to FC Luzern. (R.A.M)
