FC Basel: Another bankruptcy would be historic for the FCB coach

FC Basel doesn’t have any good memories of the last duel against the Young Boys. In the first game after Raphael Wicky was fired, the Bernese team won 5-1 in Wankdorf in the spring. It was a class difference.
A lot of time has passed since then. The Young Boys are in a mega-crisis and FC Basel recently suffered two defeats in a row. FCB boss David Degen therefore took coach Fabio Celestini to task in the SRF interview. Degen’s words are absolutely understandable.

Fabio Celestini wants to get three points
After a great start to the season, FC Basel appeared very harmless, especially on offense, despite star player Xherdan Shaqiri. Recently, for example, FCB only had two shots on goal in two games. Basel scored their last league goal on August 31st in a 1-1 draw against FC Sion. Since then, 265 minutes have passed in the championship. Horrifying numbers.
Things should now get better against YB. Celestini followed the Bernese team’s 5-0 defeat against FC Barcelona during the week: “It was immediately clear to me: what I saw wasn’t going to help me on Sunday. YB won’t play that deep in a 4-1-4-1 in Basel. YB will go full throttle, but we also want the three points.”
Because Albian Ajeti is out injured, Kevin Carlos will storm for FC Basel against the Young Boys.

If FC Basel doesn’t end up losing three points, it would be historic in the Celestini era at FCB. There have not been three defeats in a row at FCB in the eleven months under the coach.

However, the FCB coach was optimistic that he would soon return to winning ways. He praised his star Xherdan Shaqiri on Friday. “He needs games, he is our technical leader on the field. The team needs Shaq. One hundred percent,” says Celestini.
So while Shaqiri will almost certainly play, another offensive artist will have to watch. Albian Ajeti missed the cracker against the Young Boys due to muscular problems.
After the departure of Thierno Barry, Ajeti is FCB’s top goalscorer with six goals. New signing Kevin Carlos replaces him on Sunday. Carlos arrived from Yverdon in the summer and was the league’s top scorer last season (14 goals). His last goal? Carlos scored the 2-2 against YB in his last Yverdon game on August 10th.
