FC Barcelona wants to buy back Chadi Riad from Real Betis, Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday. The twenty-year-old centre-back was placed on loan at Los Béticos last transfer summer and the club has also negotiated a purchase option. Barcelona now deeply regrets accepting the purchase option and wants to bring Riad back as soon as possible.
The clubs involved agreed on a striking construction when agreeing the rental deal. While Betis managed to negotiate a purchase option, Barça only agreed if a buyback clause was also included.
Riad started as a substitute for the Andalusian formation, but since the end of September the stopper has been an undisputed basic force under coach Manuel Pellegrini. His performances have been noticed by Xavi, who is keen to bring him back.
Betis has logically become very attached to Riad and will most likely exercise its purchase option at the end of the current season.

So far in LaLiga, Riad has been given twelve starting places by Pellegrini and he has been allowed to come on as a substitute twice.
