“FC Barcelona Takes On Massive 1.45 Billion Euro Loan for Stadium Expansion”

As the Catalans announced, 1.45 billion euros will be borrowed from a total of 20 investors. Around 900 million euros are needed for the renovation of the Camp Nou, which is to offer space for more than 100,000 people in the future. Part of the money will also be invested in the club’s handball and basketball section.

Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are among the investors. According to the club, the loans are spread over several dates, over five, seven, nine, 20 and 24 years, with a “flexible structure” and a grace period. The repayment will start after the completion of the stadium works, Barcelona announced. The club estimates that the converted stadium will generate more than €200m in additional revenue annually through sponsorship and naming rights, ticketing, catering, VIP boxes, hospitality and other events.

The repayments should amount to 247 million euros per year. Work on the stadium is scheduled to begin on June 1 and last for three years. The Turkish construction company Limak was commissioned to do this. Barca, meanwhile, play at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium and aim to return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the 2024/25 season with a reduced capacity.
