FC Barcelona wants to do everything it can this summer to somehow keep Chadi Riad on board. The Moroccan defender is currently on loan for Real Betis, but he is doing so well there that the Catalans want him back soon.

However, the question remains whether this will succeed. Real Betis enforced a purchase option in Riad’s rental contract last summer. The defender is doing well in Seville and there is therefore a good chance that Betis will also activate that option. Barça then has an option in the contract, which allows them to buy back Riad for seven million euros. The Catalans want to activate that option immediately, so that the purchase of Riad will be of no use to Betis.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Betis could still benefit from activating Riad’s purchase option. The club from Seville has included in the rental agreement that they will receive a resale percentage of 50 percent if the defender later leaves Barcelona. In this way, Betis can benefit enormously if Riad ultimately makes a major transfer.
