The management of FC Barcelona has concluded an agreement in principle with the representatives of the players and staff members on the reduction of salaries. A total of 172 million euros will be cut.
This involves savings of 122 million in fixed salaries and 50 million euros in bonuses, which will not be paid out for three years instead of this season.
‘Milestone’
The agreement, which still has to be formally approved by the players and staff, gives Barcelona the necessary financial space. The club speaks of a “milestone”, which is of great importance to change the current situation.
Barcelona’s revenues have plummeted due to the corona crisis, partly due to the absence of spectators at matches. Spanish media reported earlier this month that the club had to save about 190 million in salary costs (about 30 percent) to keep it afloat.
