FC Barcelona has Frenkie de Jong named player of the season. The midfielder has won the Barça Players Award.
De Jong (24) had a difficult first year at Barcelona, but made himself indispensable in his second year under Ronald Koeman. The jury is especially impressed by the ‘dedication’ of the midfielder from Arkel. “But also for his humility, as demonstrated when he accepted to play in different positions,” Barcelona wrote on the club’s website.
Journalists from Spanish newspapers, among others, have cast their vote, as well as Vice President Rafael Yuste. In total voted worldwide by more than 5000 Culés, as Barcelona fans are called. In addition to De Jong, Lionel Messi and Marc-André Ter Stegen were also finalists in the election.
Aitana Bonmatí (23) is the lucky one in the women’s team. The midfielder stayed ahead of Lieke Martens.
