FC Barcelona nailed it on Deadline Day. Before the transfer window could close in the summer, several deals went over the table at Barça. One of these included the loan of Eric Garcia (22).
Garcia will play for FC Girona in the 2023/24 season. This was confirmed by the Spanish first division club on the news platform X (formerly Twitter). The central defender is initially on loan from FC Barcelona for one season. With his contract at Barça running until June 2026, the defender could return to Catalonia next year.
Garcia has been going through a difficult time there since arriving in the summer of 2021. The Iberian made a total of 70 appearances for the Blaugrana, but never went beyond the role of substitute player. The competition for Jules Kounde (24), Andreas Christensen (27) and Ronald Araujo (24) was too well known.
Barça lends three players on Deadline Day
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona used Deadline Day to lend three of their professionals to other clubs. In addition to Eric Garcia, Ansu Fati (20) and Clement Lenglet (28) were also caught. The latter two players will face off in the Premier League in the coming months. While Fati will play for Brighton & Hove Albion, Lenglet ended up at Aston Villa.

Fati’s loan may have surprised some, however. At Barça, the youngster was until recently touted as the successor to club icon Lionel Messi (36).
According to reports, the offensive player is said to have hoped to stay until the very end. However, Fati did not play a major role in Barcelona coach Xavi’s (43) plans for the current season. Newcomer Joao Felix (on loan from Atletico Madrid) should take the place of the homegrown player.
