FC Barcelona – La Liga The words of the former player
Paris Saint-Germain continue to dream of having Lionel Messi in their shirt by the time the 2021/22 season begins and Omar da Fonseca believes that the Argentine will make that move.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s arrival as coach at the Parc des Princes has done little to silence rumours linking Messi with a summer switch to the French capital, especially at a time when election delays in Barcelona are making it harder and harder to persuade the player to sign a contract extension.
“In the Spanish newspapers I read that his whole family had begun to learn French,” Da Fonseca – a retired Argentine footballer who played for PSG during his career – explained in an interview with RMC.
“As a child, if I’d been told I was coming to play in Paris then it would have been music to my ears. For us Argentines in France, Paris is something important.
“Messi will come. Just imagine if he is able to say he won the Champions League with PSG.”
Whilst PSG‘s sporting director Leonardo has been keen to ensure interest in Messi is out in the public domain, Barcelona still retain some hope that they can keep their superstar.
Ronald Koeman has overseen an upturn in the team’s fortunes of late and they are only 10 points behind the league leaders Atletico Madrid, although Los Colchoneros do have a game in hand.
Barcelona are also through the knockout phase of the Champions League, where ironically they will face PSG.
This could well be a very interesting clash, and the result might well end up contributing to Messi‘s final decision. Time will tell.
