FC Barcelona – La Liga Chosen to take charge in the Champions League
Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers will take charge of Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening at the Camp Nou.
Kuipers will be accompanied by compatriots Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra as his assistants, while Serdar Gozubuyuk will be the fourth official. Pol van Boekel and Dennis Higler will be in charge of VAR.
Kuipers previously officiated Barcelona and PSG‘s 1-1 draw in the second leg of the quarter-finals in 2012/13, which was enough to see the Catalans through after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
His last visit to the Camp Nou came as Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0 in 2018/19, before that infamous 4-0 loss at Anfield.
Kuipers also oversaw Barcelona‘s scoreless draw with Juventus in 2016/17, a 3-1 win over AC Milan in 2011/12, and a 2-0 victory against Dynamo Kyiv in 2009/10.
On the road, he took charge of Barcelona‘s 2-1 win at Inter in 2019/20, and a 1-1 draw at Roma in 2015/16, as well as a 2-1 loss against Celtic in 2012/13 and a draw at Stuttgart in 2009/10.
For PSG, he has refereed their draw with Naples in 2018/19 and with Chelsea in 2014/15, as well as a comfortable 4-1 win over Dynamo Kyiv in 2012/13.
Also on Tuesday, Slavko Vincic will officiate RB Leipzig‘s game with Liverpool. His assistants will be Take Klancnik and Andrea Kovacic, with Matej Jug as fourth official. Massimiliano Irrati and Jure Praprotnik will be in charge of VAR.
