FC Barcelona has a new player. The Catalan club announced the acquisition of Sergino Desta. He is the first US footballer in Barca’s history.

The 19-year-old has so far been a player in Ajax Amsterdam. Barcelona said it paid 21 million euros for his transfer. Another 5 million euro may go to the Dutch club in the form of bonuses.

Dest has a five-year contract with Barcelona. It includes a breakaway clause – it amounts to EUR 400 million.

Barcelona bought Desta to play right-back. He will compete with Sergi Roberto for a place in the squad. In the club squad he replaced Nelson Semedo, who became a Wolverhampton Wanderers player.

The US national has been a player for Ajax since 2012. In total, he played 38 matches for his first team. He scored two goals and six assists. Here is a sample of his skills:

Barcelona was also strengthened by Miralem Pjanić, Trincao and Pedri in this transfer window. The club is still negotiating to bring Erik Garcia and Memphis Depay.
