FC Barcelona again lost points in La Liga on Monday after four victories in a row. Without the injured Frenkie de Jong, the Spanish leader did not get further than 0-0 against Girona at home.
Barcelona had a predominance in their own Camp Nou, but was anything but swinging. Robert Lewandowski, among others, could not make the difference. On the other hand, the home team got away well a few times.
With the goalless draw, Barcelona only partly benefited from the 2-3 defeat that pursuer Real Madrid suffered against Villarreal on Saturday. However, the Catalans, with a thirteen-point lead, are further out of sight.
De Jong has been sidelined since last month with a knee injury. Against Girona, trainer Xavi also could not have Andreas Christensen, Pedri and Ousmane Dembélé.
Barcelona, which missed out on a final place in the Copa del Rey last Wednesday due to a painful 0-4 loss against Real, will visit Getafe in the next round of competition. Another week later, number three Atlético Madrid comes to visit.
With ten rounds to go, very crazy things have to happen if Barcelona does not want to become champion of Spain for the 27th time. The club’s last national title dates back to 2019.
