With Ronald Araujo having surgery on his hamstring a few days ago and set to be out until the end of the year, FC Barcelona could make a radical decision regarding their central defender.
It was one of the highlights of this Copa America. Ronald Araujo’s terrible injury against Brazil in the quarter-finals of the competition was a huge blow for Uruguay and FC Barcelona. The central defender underwent surgery in Finland, and will be out until the end of December. Half a season missed by the Uruguayan, which could force Barça to make a strong decision.
Ronald Araujo could thus be released by Barça, before becoming a FC Barcelona player again in January, as revealed on Wednesday Sport it. A fairly unprecedented, but legal, maneuver that would allow the Blaugrana to free up significant financial space to register the arrival of other players during this transfer window.
If FC Barcelona were to resort to this subterfuge, it would not be without risks for the Catalans. In January, when it comes to reintegrating Araujo into the Barcelona squad, Barça might not have the financial margin to include the Uruguayan in its squad. The latter would therefore not be able to become a Barcelona player again, would find himself without a club, and above all free to commit wherever he wants. A disaster scenario that the Blaugrana prefer not to imagine, and which clearly cools the Barcelona directors as to the use of this procedure.
