FC Barcelona combines football and music with the new sponsor Spotify

On Sunday at the Clásico against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona players will appear in jerseys with the Canadian rapper Drake’s owl crest (“Take Care” or “Certified Lover Boy”) as part of the sponsorship deal with the service Spotify music streaming. The club explained on its website on Friday that this is part of the deal, which is about the union of football and music. It hasn’t been specifically mentioned that there is also a lot of money at stake.

Since Drake’s songs on Spotify broke the record of over 50 billion streams, his emblem was chosen. FC Barcelona, heavily indebted with 1.35 billion euros, is urgently dependent on the payments of the sponsors of the Swedish company.

In March, the Catalan club Spotify won as a sponsor. The Barcelona stadium has also been renamed “Spotify Camp Nou”. In addition, Barça’s men’s and women’s teams will initially play with the Swedish club logo on their jerseys until summer 2026.

The club announced that special promotions like the one with Drake would now also be more frequent. Financial terms of the sponsorship agreement were not disclosed. However, in March, the daily Mundo Deportivo and other media reported that the club is expected to be paid between 65 and 70 million euros for each of the next four seasons.
