FC Barcelona Beats Real Madrid 3-0 in Friendly Match: Lewandowski Absent but Barca Shines

Robert Lewandowski did not score, but his FC Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-0 in a friendly match played in Dallas. The unexpected hero of the match was 20-year-old Barca reserve player Fermin Lopez, who scored a beautiful goal to make it 2-0 and scored an equally impressive assist on the third goal scored by Ferran Torres. Ousmane Dembele scored the first goal for Barcelona in the first half.

There is no such thing as a “social El Clasico” – assured both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona before the game, which was played on Saturday evening at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Dallas), which was attended by 80,000 fans hungry for a great football spectacle. And that’s what they received.

Barcelona smashed the unlucky Real Madrid. Lewandowski did not flash, others did

Both teams put up their strongest combinations for this match, which of course meant that Robert Lewandowski appeared in the basic composition of FC Barcelona. And with the first whistle of referee Allen Chapman, an absolutely crazy, intense spectacle began.

It started with a strong blow. Specifically, a strong strike from the air by Oriol Romeu in the 3rd minute of the game, which thus knocked the crossbar of Real’s goal. The “Royals” tried to respond with a dangerous situation on their side, but more or less for the first 20 minutes, Barcelona’s defense was flawless and did not allow any threat under the goal of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Meanwhile, with the end of the quarter of the game, Barca took the lead. A brilliantly played free-kick by Ousmane Dembele and Pedri completely surprised the Real defense and the unguarded Frenchman could beat Thibaut Courtois with a powerful shot into the long corner of the goal.

Real should have responded five minutes later when the referee awarded him a penalty for Ronald Araujo’s handball. Vinicius Junior approached the ball, but his powerful shot only hit the crossbar.

The madness continued. In the offensive actions of Barcelona, the goal scorer Dembele was the most active. Just before half-time, he should have scored a second goal, but in the 41st minute, after Robert Lewandowski successfully pressed Ferland Mendy, the Frenchman failed to take advantage of a one-on-one with Courtois. Lewandowski himself was not very active, but a moment earlier he tried to beat the Belgian goalkeeper himself – after Courtois intervened with his head outside the penalty area, the Pole struck without thinking from about 40 meters, but missed.

In the second half of the first half, however, Real Madrid had more of the game. Shortly after the missed penalty, Rodrygo hit a strong free-kick, but Ter Stegen showed off an excellent save. The German goalkeeper also had to deflect a dangerous shot from a dozen meters from the Brazilian, and moreover, in the 40th minute, he was extremely lucky when first Vinicius Junior, and then also Jude Bellingham, in one action beat the frame of his goal.

In addition to many situations, the first half of El Clasico was full of hard clashes, yellow cards (Camavinga, Tchouameni, De Jong and Carvajal) and, unfortunately, injuries or health problems. For this reason, Andreas Christensen and Ilkay Guendogan (both Barcelona) and Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid) left the pitch. The first information shows that in the case of all three, only “muscle discomfort” and changes resulting from caution are mentioned.

The pace was still good in the second half, but there was less going on under both goals. In the 51st minute, Robert Lewandowski took a shot in the sixteenth, but Dani Carvajal blocked it. After an hour of play on the other side of the pitch, the crossbar saved Barcelona again, this time after an extremely powerful long-range shot by Aurelien Tchouameni.

Real were more active, looking for equalization, and Carlo Ancelotti also kept his attacking stars – Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo – on the pitch longer. But although the “Królewscy” quite easily got into the defensive zone of their opponent, in the end something was missing each time to create a 100% situation. Sometimes Carlo Ancelotti’s players had too little concentration at key moments, sometimes the defense of FC Barcelona with Jules Kounde at the helm intervened perfectly.

It wasn’t until the very end that things started to happen. On the side of Real, Vinicius Junior was very active, as one of the few basic players who stayed on the pitch until the very end. In the 82nd minute, the Brazilian’s surprising shot missed Ter Stegen’s goal by centimeters. Five minutes later, Vini’s individual action sent the ball from almost zero angle into the crossbar. Real Madrid’s players hit the frame of Barcelona’s goal five times in this match.

This situation took place already when the score was 2:0 for Robert Lewandowski’s team, who stayed on the pitch for 74 minutes. All because in the 85th minute Fermin Lopez, a 20-year-old player of Barcelona’s reserves, started his show in the end. The young midfielder, who according to press reports impresses Xavi in training, fired a real racket from over 20 meters with which he increased the score.

Not only that, in extra time Lopez added assists to the goal, playing a great ball to a clean position to Ferran Torres. He, in turn, tossed the ball over Courtois leaving the goal and after a while directed it “to the brick”.

FC Barcelona finally defeated Real Madrid 3:0, although the result of this meeting certainly does not fully reflect the events on the pitch, because the “Royals” were an equal rival for Barca, only extremely ineffective and unlucky. Both teams will play one more game each in the United States. On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday (5:00 am Polish time) FC Barcelona will face Milan, and a day later (1:30 am) Real Madrid will play Juventus.
