Thanks to support from GC and Basel: The FC Aarau women qualify for the playoffs
The Red Boots lost 2-3 in St.Gallen, even though they went into the break with a two-goal lead. Despite the defeat, the Aarau women qualified for the playoffs, where last year’s opponents are waiting.
It was the most important game for FC Aarau Women on Saturday evening at the Espenmoos in St.Gallen. Because in the end two points decided the playoffs or relegation battle. With a win, the Aarau women would have qualified directly for the playoffs. But the Red Boots gave up the game after a 2-0 lead and had to hope for help.
When Dana Scheriff was hired as a key player in the penalty area for the second half of the season, no one could have known what difference she would make. Now it is clear: the Irish-American footballer is not only the top scorer for the Red Boots with five goals this season, but also played a key role in ensuring that the Aarau women now qualified for the playoffs.
It quickly became apparent that Scheriff was an added value for the Red Boots. Also against St.Gallen. The home team on the Espenmoos started the game better and, above all, had more chances, but the Red Boots were the more efficient. And they shocked the St. Gallen women.
At the end, the FC Aarau women can still celebrate.

Because when Nicole Tiller launched an attack out of nowhere, the St.Gallen defense was not prepared. FCA striker Dana Scheriff only had to hold out her foot after Tiller’s cross and directed the ball into the goal. It was only the second time the Red Boots had taken the lead in a game. It was winter signing Dana Scheriff twice. Shortly before the end of the first half, the Aarau women doubled with a wonderful header and went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
A 2-0 lead was given away
If the game had been over after 45 minutes, playoff qualification would have been clear. But after the break, St.Gallen stepped on the accelerator and scored the next goal. A little later the home team equalized and the Aarau women’s lead was gone. With a draw the Red Boots would have collected an important point, but the St.Gallen team soon scored the third goal and thus the lead.

The shaking began for Aarau. They would have had to turn the game around to secure qualification. The Red Boots still had a few dangerous chances, but were unable to score. So they had to hope that Rapperswil and Thun lost on equal points against Basel and GC and therefore didn’t win any points.
Lorena Barth had to admit defeat three times.

With the final whistle on the Espenmoos it was clear that the Red Boots had also lost the second game of the season against St.Gallen, but thanks to the help of the shooters they still made it into the playoffs in the messed up season. Last year’s opponent Servette Chênois Féminin is now waiting there. The first leg will take place on April 27th or 28th, the second leg on May 4th or 5th.
