U.S. federal police released new footage yesterday depicting a man suspected of planting improvised explosive devices in Washington on Jan. 5, the day before the storming of Congress to gather information about his identity, AFP reported.
The footage shows the suspects through the lenses of surveillance cameras on various streets in the capital. He is wearing black pants and a suit top, his face is hidden by a hood, mask and goggles. He wears gloves and holds a backpack in one hand.
The FBI has already released photos of the suspect, which show his branded sneakers in particular, and offered a $ 100,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
The man is suspected of planting improvised explosive devices near the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic parties some distance from the Capitol. The bombs did not explode, and perhaps the goal was to abduct police away from the building just before the assault.
“We continue to believe that someone somewhere has data whose significance they have not yet realized,” said Stephen D’Antuono, deputy director of the FBI’s Washington office.
The bombs were “working devices that could explode, causing severe injuries or death,” he stressed.
Thousands of Donald Trump supporters stormed the Congress building on Jan. 6 as Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the country’s presidential election was confirmed. Five people died in the attack, the spontaneous nature of which raises more and more doubts, and more than 300 people have been detained so far in connection with their participation in the attack, reminds AFP.
