The FBI has seized cell phones and iPads belonging to New York City Mayor Adam Adams, allegedly as part of a corruption investigation, the New York Times reported Friday, citing sources.
In early November, it became known that law enforcement agencies were investigating a case against fundraiser and consultant Adams Brionna Suggs. It was reported that her home was searched.
According to the publication, equipment belonging to the mayor was seized on suspicion that during the 2021 election campaign, Adams and his representatives colluded with the Turkish authorities in order to obtain funds for their own needs.
“(FBI) agents approached the mayor on the street…, got into his car and, guided by a court order, seized his equipment,” the newspaper writes.
At least two mobile phones and an iPad were seized. Representatives of the mayor’s office have not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier, in connection with the search of Suggs’s home, the New York Times reported that after it became known, Adams was forced to cancel a series of planned meetings in Washington, including with representatives of the White House and the US Congress, and urgently return to NY. According to the publication’s interlocutors, in addition to the search, special agents also asked Suggs questions related to corruption.
Suggs worked for Adams on his 2021 mayoral campaign in New York City and has also been involved in fundraising efforts so far in preparation for his 2025 re-election bid.
According to Adams’ representative Charles Lutwakto which the agency refers, the mayor has returned to New York to resolve the issues that have arisen and intends to hold all previously scheduled meetings as soon as possible.
Suggs is not only responsible for raising money from Adams’ donors, but is also considered a consultant with close ties to him.
