FBI Director Christopher Wray warned on Tuesday that the war between Israel and Hamas had increased the threat of attacks against Americans in the United States to “a whole other level.”
“We assess that the actions of Hamas and its allies will be a source of inspiration the likes of which we have not seen since ISIS was launched several years ago,” Wray told the Senate National Security Committee.
He added: “We do not rule out the possibility that Hamas or another foreign terrorist organization will exploit the current conflict to launch attacks here on our lands.”
He explained, “Our greatest concern is that violent extremists, individuals or small groups will be inspired by events in the Middle East and carry out attacks against Americans going about their daily lives.”
Since the start of the war in Gaza 3 weeks ago, the United States has announced its strong support for Israel in its war against Hamas.
