Faye is a 2024 American documentary film about the life and career of actress Faye Dunaway. It was directed by Laurent Bouzereau, who also took over a large part of the production.
The film celebrated its world premiere on May 15, 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Classics Section. It premiered on HBO and Max on July 13, 2024[1].
The film examines the life and career of actress Faye Dunaway. She also reveals for the first time her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and talks about her reputation for being “.” Actress Sharon Stone and actor Mickey Rourke, director James Gray and son Liam Dunaway O’Neill also appear[2].
Director Laurent Bouzereau, a fan of Dunaway, is friends with her son. The two discussed making a documentary about Dunaway’s life and career. It took years before Dunaway was finally convinced to undertake the project[3].
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 91% of the 34 reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7/10. The site’s consensus reads: “Faye is an uncompromising celebration of a hallowed actress known for her brilliance and her tempestuousness.” Fans of the incomparable Dunaway must see the film.”[4]
Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, rated the film 69 out of 100 based on 8 critics, indicating “generally positive” reviews.[5]
Deadline Hollywood’s Pete Hammond wrote: “After watching this film about her life, you will feel a new respect for this great star… I have found myself wanting to see many of her films again.”[6]
Kevin Maher of The Times gave the film four out of five stars and called it a “must see”.[7]
