Faw Hongqi S9, hypercar with Italian DNA debuts at Milan Design Week

The hybrid hypercar designed by Walter de Silva and the result of the joint venture between the Chinese Faw and the American Silk was unveiled at the Milan Design Week. It will be built in Emilia Romagna starting from 2023. Super technical characteristics: 1400 Hp, 0-100 in 1.9 seconds, 0-200 in less than 6 seconds and 0-300 in less than 11 seconds, with a maximum speed of over 400 km / h

The new hybrid hypercar designed by Walter de Silva that made its debut at Milan Design Week is called Faw Hongqi S9. Behind the Hongqi S9 there are two companies: the Chinese giant Faw (leading Chinese car manufacturer with 3.5 million units sold in 2019) and the American Silk, specialized in vehicle design. The two companies to make the S9 have formed a joint venture which, in addition to de Silva’s pencil, will also make use of the support of the Motor Valley, since the cars will be made both in China and in Emilia Romagna (an investment of 1 billion euros).

1400 hp and 0-100 in 1.9 seconds

The Hongqi S9 hybrid hypercar can count on a powetrain that ensures a total of 1,400 hp, consisting of an 849 hp V8 flanked by three electric motors, two on the front axle and one on the rear. The three electric motors, which will be built in Emilia, ensure 530 hp. Performance is insane: 0-100 in 1.9 seconds, 0-200 under 6 seconds and 0-300 in under 11 seconds, with a top speed of over 400 km / h.

Smooth lines

De Silva opted for a dry and clean design. The body of the S9, in carbon fiber, has in fact simple and smooth lines, which have been studied in function of aerodynamics. The front is characterized by the thin headlights inserted inside two slits and by the large air intakes in the lower part. Air intakes that we also find on the sides.

To cope with these super performances, the house has taken great care in aerodynamics, also making use of the support of Dallara and adopting sophisticated solutions such as the movable wing. The frame is in “long-fiber” carbon (the same technology used for F1), as is the bodywork.

During the presentation the company stated that I will favor the return to Italy of engineers who had moved to England and Germany. This plug-in hybrid hypercar will be joined by the flagship S7, which will be made in Italy, and then the electric S5 and S3 will arrive.
