God bless them, with the deadlines. Not to say that the Lada X-Cross 5 is a long-awaited model, because the choice of the prototype itself raises big questions. Like the Chelyabinsk metro tram: the wait is long, and the meaning is not obvious.
The original model, FAW Bestune T77, has been sold in Russia without success since 2021, and even the shallowing of the Russian market did not make it a bestseller. In 2022, 414 cars were sold; in 2023, demand increased, but still amounted to 300–350 cars per month, which is an order of magnitude lower than direct competitors. The little-known brand is partly a hindrance, because in Russia FAW is better known as a manufacturer of commercial equipment. The brand does not have a developed dealer network, and there are no examples of successful passenger car projects. But this is only half the battle, the main thing is that most Russians are not interested in a crossover with a price of 2.32 million rubles. Alternatives to it are a dime a dozen: Moskvich 3 (another pseudo-Russian “Chinese”), Haval Jolion, Geely Atlas, Omoda C5, Kaiyi X3… Some of the listed cars are slightly more compact than the FAW Bestune T77, but also cheaper.
