It is already a reality in many Viennese companies: In addition to a 2-G proof, a valid PCR test is also required. This is currently also being discussed in gastronomy. A restaurant in Vienna-Favorites voluntarily relies on it – and is apparently successful.

It is a small restaurant in the hip Favoritner Sonnwendviertel – the “Mimi im Stadtelefant”. The guests, mostly regular customers from the nearby offices, are quite taken with the new austerity. “I just feel really good,” says one man. “I test myself personally every day, so it’s not an additional effort for me,” says a woman to “Vienna Today”.
Landlady voluntarily relies on 2-G+
In a tavern in Favoriten, 2G+ has been in force for all guests for some time. This voluntary restriction of the restaurateur obviously pays off.

Sales have not changed since the introduction of the new rule, says landlady Dorothee Bernhard. “If a table is canceled at very short notice, I won’t be able to fill it again so quickly because people don’t have a PCR test up their sleeve,” she says. But: “Since we decided to drive 2-G-Plus, I’ve had a lot of reservations because people then feel safer in our restaurants than elsewhere,” says Bernhard.
“Death of Gastronomy”
So what whets the appetite of the guests in “Mimi im Stadtelefant” spoils it for many others in the industry. “2-G-Plus is honestly the death of gastronomy,” says Erwin Scheiflinger, deputy chairman of gastronomy in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and operator of the Bastei-Beisl. According to Scheiflinger, it would take too long for test results to be available.
