‘Favorite Match’: Nick Kyrgios Remembers Miami Thriller Against Roger Federer

Nick Kyrgios apparently has very positive memories of his 2017 Miami thriller against Roger Federer, calling it his ‘favorite game’. In the 2017 Miami Masters semi-final, Federer won a three-set thriller against Kyrgios as he edged the Aussie 7-6(9) 6-7(9) 7-6(5) in over three hours of intense battle.

On his Instagram Story, Kyrgios shared a clip from Miami’s game in 2017 and captioned it: “My favorite game.”

Kyrgios-Federer game in Miami had it all

For more than three hours, Miami tennis fans had the chance to watch Kyrgios and Federer deliver high-level tennis and go back and forth.

In the first set, Federer recovered from a breakdown and saved three set points before converting his fourth set point to win a tight opener. In the second set, the only break points were seen in the seventh game – which Kyrgios saved to eventually force a tie-break.

In the second set tie-break, Kyrgios saved two match points before converting his third set point to send the match to a decisive point. In the third set, not a single break point was seen and the match went into a third tie-break.

Kyrgios opened a 3-1 lead early in the third set tie-break and then led 5-4 after the first nine points, but Federer then claimed the next three points and secured a three-set victory.

After the match, Federer admitted that it was definitely an experience to win a best-of-three-sets match that featured three tie breaks. “It was very nice, because you don’t play three breaks in a game very often.

It’s nice to win those. It’s great to win like that, especially because I remember the loss against him a few years ago, it was tough. It was my boys birthday.

I wasn’t with them and I got this game so it was good to have this one tonight,” Federer said after beating Kyrgios in Miami. After Federer’s retirement, Kyrgios said that the Swiss had ‘the ability to make you feel miserable on the pitch’.
