PSV has played better matches under coach Peter Bosz. The club from Eindhoven won 3-1 at Heracles Almelo on Sunday afternoon, but the national champion looked shaky and fragile – something the coach admitted afterwards. He listed: a bad start, not enough intensity, sloppy passing, lost too many duels, almost conceding a second goal.
In the interviews that Bosz gives after a match, it should be noted that he is often very critical of his team. Even when that is not entirely justified. What do the figures say?
‘It could have been a lot worse for PSV’
“It looked pretty worthless,” data analyst Bart Frouws begins. “But that’s hard to express in the figures. PSV only had six shots against them – that’s not that crazy. But that’s also because Heracles had two goals disallowed for offside. Those aren’t included in the statistics.” All things considered, he continues, PSV didn’t fare all that badly. “It could have been a lot worse.”
