In a poll published last week, about half of American men who identify as Republicans said they do not intend to get vaccinated. When asked if Trump should address his supporters directly, given the polls, Fauci said in NBC’s program Meet the Press: “I hope he does, because the figures from the survey are so disturbing.”
“It is absolutely nonsensical that a large part of a certain group of people would not want to be vaccinated purely for political reasons. What is the problem here? This is a vaccine that will be lifesaving for millions of people, ”said Fauci.
Disagreement
In the final stages of his presidency, Trump had little appreciation for Fauci. Trump in October, after being hospitalized for three days for treatment against Covid-19, criticized Fauci, saying: “Fauci is a disaster. People are tired of hearing him and all those idiots. ”
Fauci served under Republican and Democratic presidents. He has been director of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases since 1984 and also serves under current President Joe Biden.
