Fátima Pérez and Paola Calderón lead the scoring table in the women’s group A of the Beach Soccer League CEL Cup 2024 with nine goals each in three games played by the university team.
The partnership shown with the goal projects Fátima and Paola as one of the strongest duos and to lead the scarlet dream of being champion.
The skilled soccer players are playing together for the second time on the university team after both were in the scarlet ranks in 2022.
“The UES team has always been strong and from the first time we played together I felt that she understands me a lot and I understand what she is going to do on the court. I don’t know how to describe it, but I feel confident in her, when we get together we make it look so easy that when she goes, I come and everything turns out well for us,” said Fátima.
Between them they have contributed 18 goals, that is, more than 50% of the university team’s scores, which is positioned in first place with nine points and 30 goals in favor.
On the opening day they beat Teotepeque 14-2 with four goals from Calderón and a hat-trick from Pérez.
On date 2, UES gave a coup of authority by winning 21-7 against Barra de Santiago, a victory that was led by a little hand from Fátima Pérez and a poker from Paola Calderón.
The previous Sunday, UES regained first place with a 4-1 victory against Garita Palmera, which is another of the teams that has best strengthened itself for this LFP.
In this game both contributed a goal each, which was key to defeating the Ahuachapanecas who had taken advantage of the BS UES break and emerged as leaders.
Paola’s dribble and the precise pass to Fátima’s movement was a constant action in the BS UES matches against Garita Palmera, an action that ended in Pérez’s goal.
Minutes later, Paola scored with a great assist from Fátima who controlled a ball near the middle of the court, lined up on the side and served just to her teammate.
“Thank God for that victory he has given us, that is the idea of strengthening the team and we are getting the result,” said the player from Barra de Santiago.
Fátima shares the credit with her teammates and values the collective work that the scarlet team has.
“Each girl has an important role in the team, we have good changes because Paola leaves and another comes in who do their job well and it is good to have a strong replacement, that makes us trust each of the players,” Pérez added.
Fátima is part of the Selecta female beach team and returns to UES after her time in Barra de Santiago. In Paola’s case, she has worked in 11-a-side soccer and returns to the academic team after serving for a few months in Costa Rican soccer with Municipal Pérez Zeledón.
In addition, Calderón was part of the Salvadoran teams that won bronze in women’s 11-a-side soccer in the last 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
