Robin Olsen, 33, may miss the birth of her third child.

A risk he took for Janne Andersson’s sake.

– I really wanted to be here and spend this last week with them, he says.

When Janne Andersson took out his first squad as national team captain in 2016, Robin Olsen was immediately part of his national team.

In Andersson’s first starting eleven, against the Netherlands in the World Cup qualifier, Olsen guarded the box.

He also did in the last one.

Sweden defeated Estonia on Sunday in Janne Andersson’s 94th and last international match.

But it required a tough decision on the home front for the 33-year-old goalkeeper to be included during the November gathering.

His wife, Mia Lindgren Olsen, is pregnant with the couple’s third child and is expected to give birth any day.

“Stuck in Baku”

It was included in the calculation when Olsen accepted the matches against Azerbaijan in Baku and Estonia at the Friends arena.

– A normal gathering, I probably wouldn’t have taken the risk and gone here considering that it could happen at any time. Being stuck in Baku is not an easy trip home if something were to happen. But both my wife and I pretty much agreed that I very much wanted to be here and spend the last week with them as it was the last national team gathering for Janne and Peter. Right then I didn’t know it was Albin’s last, he says.

On Sunday evening, a farewell dinner is expected for Janne Andersson at the player hotel.

– I’m staying for dinner tonight, I’m going home tomorrow. It will probably be very emotional tonight.

Regarding his own future in the national team, Robin Olsen is clear that he wants to continue.

– I’m not quite ready to step down. It’s a family decision we have to make together. You have to put the family first, but if I’m selfish, I’ll continue.
