Father who killed six-year-old daughter in Alappuzha attempts suicide in jail

Alappuzha: The father who killed a six-year-old girl in Mavelikara tried to commit suicide in jail. The accused Punnamoot Anakuttil Srimahesh (38) tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat in Mavelikara sub-jail. The accused was remanded in the evening after being produced in the court. He was trying to cut his throat in jail when his fellow inmates noticed him. The jail authorities were immediately informed and Srimahesh was brought to Vandanam Medical College.

Six-year-old Nakshatra was stabbed to death by her father at home. Arumkola took place at 7.30 pm on Wednesday. Shri Mahesh killed the child with an axe. Srimahesh’s mother, Sunanda, who came running after hearing the commotion, saw the boy lying on the couch with cuts. Accused also assaulted Sunanda who ran out after making noise. He also tried to attack the nearby residents who ran away.
