“Father Travels 200km on Bus with Dead Baby in Bag Due to Inability to Pay for Ambulance”

Kolkata ∙ As he could not pay for the ambulance, the father traveled 200 km in a bus with the body of his 5-month-old baby in a bag. Ashim Debsharma traveled from Siliguri in Bengal to Kaliganj in Uttar Dinajpur with his son’s dead body. He did not tell anyone that the bag contained a dead body for fear of being thrown off the bus.

Ashim’s son was undergoing treatment at the North Bengal Medical College in Siliguri. 16,000 was spent on treatment. After the death of the child, they asked for Rs 8,000 as rent to transport the body in an ambulance.
