The father of the three-year-old toddler who died last Saturday in suspicious circumstances in Habay-la-Vieille, in the province of Luxembourg, remains in custody. The Arlon council chamber decided this. The father has been charged with manslaughter, among other things, but he says he is innocent.
The man had called 911 for his three-year-old son on Saturday afternoon. When emergency services arrived on the scene, the boy was already unconscious. Despite several resuscitation attempts, the toddler died.
The father is now suspected of manslaughter and intentional assault and battery, the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office reports. He also allegedly denied the toddler care and nutrition. His detention was extended by the council chamber on Friday. The man must therefore remain in pre-trial detention for another month.
The suspect himself “categorically denies that he is guilty of the charges against him,” says his lawyer Dimitri De Coster.
The investigation into the facts continues. “In the interest of the investigation, no further communication will take place at this stage,” the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office said.
