The Bryansk regional court changed the preventive measure for Dmitry Afanaskin, the father of an eighth-grader who carried out a shooting at local gymnasium No. 5 on December 7.
On December 10, Afanaskin was arrested by the district court for a period of two months. The court’s decision was challenged in the regional court by both the defense and the prosecutor’s office
The appeals were partially satisfied, the press service of the Bryansk region courts reported on December 15; Afanaskin’s preventive measure was replaced with a ban on certain actions. The accused has been released from custody.
Afanaskin is accused of careless storage of firearms (Part 2 of Article 224 of the Criminal Code) and incitement to suicide in relation to a minor (clause “a” of Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the accused systematically humiliated, threatened and brutally treated his daughter. According to Shot, Afanaskin only partially admitted his guilt in improper storage of a hunting rifle; otherwise, he denies his guilt.
On the morning of December 7, Alina Afanaskina, a student at Bryansk gymnasium No. 5, opened fire on her classmates – one schoolgirl died and five more were wounded. After this, the schoolgirl committed suicide.
The director of the gymnasium for administrative and economic work, Larisa Katolikova, was accused of negligence resulting in the death of people through negligence (Part 3 of Article 283 of the Criminal Code) and was sent under house arrest. The gymnasium security officer Galina Chertkova, who was at work at the school on the day of the shooting, as well as the head of the Excalibur Agency Sergei Poddubny, who was involved in the security of the educational institution, were arrested for a period of two months. The arrest of Chertkova and Poddubny was appealed; at the time of publication of the news, the appeal had not yet been considered by the court.
