The government proposed to the president to award the pharmacist Prof. Rahamin Shekerjiyski, known as the “father of benalgin”, with the highest state honor – the Stara Planina Order, first degree.
Prof. Shekerdzhiyski is a distinguished scientist in the field of pharmacy with over 66 years of work experience. He was born in Dupnitsa in 1934. He is a donor to schools, kindergartens in Dupnitsa, as well as to the football club in the city.
His contribution to pharmacy includes nearly 80 developments of medicinal products, 30 of which have been successfully implemented and are well known in practice, including Benalgina – the pain pill.
He graduated in pharmacy at the Higher Medical Institute in Sofia in 1956 and chemistry at Sofia University in 1968. His entire professional career as a teacher and scientist was spent at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University in Sofia (1969-2004). He founded and headed the Department of “Industrial Pharmacy” (1986-2002).
Professor Shekerdziyski donated his native house in Dupnitsa to the municipality with the desire to be declared a Museum of Pharmacy in Dupnitsa and to be used for scientific purposes by students, scientists and specialists in the field of pharmacy.
The nomination of Prof. Rahamin Shekerjiyski was also supported by a declaration of the local municipal council in Dupnitsa.
