RIYADH – A convicted killer was “forgiven” by the victim’s father on Monday morning (24/5) at Saudi Arabia , several minutes before the convict was executed.

Awad Suleiman Al-Amrani of Tabuk, northwestern Saudi Arabia, whose son was killed in a fight four years ago, ruled the killer and his family could not celebrate the amnesty.

He also said that families should not attempt to raise money from donors or attend any events that may be organized as a result of the amnesty.

In appreciation of his “noble” attitude, several Twitter users posted the Qur’anic verse 40 of Surah Al-Shura, which said, “The reward for hurt is the same wound (in degrees): But if one forgives and makes reconciliation, the reward is from Allah. : Because (Allah) does not love those who do wrong. “

Others say that Al-Amrani’s decision is in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who said, “Whoever introduces good deeds in Islam, there is a reward for him and a reward for those who act after him without anything less than their reward.”

In a message posted on Twitter, the Saudi citizen of Bandar Al-Atwi wrote, “The father has obtained a promise from the Almighty to reward him for his noble deeds.”

Quoting Surat Al-Maidah verse 32, he added, “If anyone saves one life, it is the same as he saves the lives of all human beings.”

Waleed Khaled Darraj, a lawyer in Jeddah, told Arab News that the freed man and his family must comply with the demands and conditions set by the victim’s father.

“If it is written and approved by the court, everything that is asked by the father must be followed up, otherwise the forgiveness becomes invalid and the victim’s family has the right to demand beheading,” he said.

He said although executions are permitted under Sharia as a deterrent to safeguarding people’s lives and souls, Islam also urges its followers to forgive whenever possible.
