Britney Spears’ father is no longer the director of the American singer. As expected, a judge has suspended Jamie Spears from trusteeship, leaving him out of control over her finances, property and many other aspects of her life after 13 years.
The judge called the current situation untenable. “It represents a toxic environment, for which Jamie Spears has to be suspended.”
On November 12, the judge will make a final decision regarding the supervision order of the artist. For the time being, the trusteeship is assumed by an accountant.
breakdown
The now 39-year-old singer had success about twenty years ago with hits such as …Baby One More Time, Oops!… I did it again on Toxic. After she suffered a mental breakdown in 2008, her father was appointed as supervisor.
She has been trying to end that curatorship for five years now. According to the singer, her father controlled her life and forced her to perform in Las Vegas, among other things.
‘Humiliating and suffocating’
In July, she mentioned oversight in a court hearing humiliating and suffocating. “What else do you call it when you hold someone against her will, take all possessions, credit card, cash, phone, passport, and lock up to work for you?”
According to Britney Spears, her father enjoyed his power and became depressed by the situation. “I want my life back. It’s been like this for thirteen years now and it’s enough.”
Statement father
Earlier this month, Jamie Spears said he also wants his role as curator to end. In a statement to the court, he questioned whether it is still necessary to put his daughter under supervision.
In the hours before the verdict, fans of Spears gathered at the court. They sang songs of hers and shouted lyrics like, “Hey, hey, ho, ho, the conservatorship has got to go!”
